Yun Hyon-seok
Yun Hyon-seok (hangul: 윤현석 尹賢碩, August 7, 1984 – April 26, 2003〔(“주님, 육우당 형제의 눈물을 닦아주소서” ) 〕) was a South Korean LGBT poet, writer and LGBT activist.〔(나의 일곱번째 친구는 누구입니까 ) The Hankyoreh 2013.04.26 〕
He committed suicide in protest against discrimination against homosexuals in South Korea.〔(한 번도 ‘우리의 이름’으로 장례를 치르지 못했어요 ) 〕〔(10대 동성애자 '사회적 차별비관' 자살 ) The Hankyoreh 2003.04.28 〕 During his life, he fought against social discrimination, racism and homophobia.
Throughout his school years, he was shunted aside to the same age peer group, In December 2002, he was planning to leave school to attend Seil High-school. In 1999 to 2003, he was active in the anti-LGBT discrimination Movement and LGBT rights movement and homophobia opposition movement. In 2001, he debutted in literary world, involving himself in poet, writers and columnists activities also , mainly poets. So he was severely discriminated against and prejudiced, because of his sexual identity. In 2002, he joined the Solidarity for LGBT Human Rights of Korea. He was also Anti-war peace activity and Conscientious objection to military service. On April 26, 2003, Yun was drinking to two Korean distilled spirits and hanged himself,〔(10대 동성애자 '사회적 차별비관' 자살 ) 한겨레 2003.04.28 〕 Condemned of South Korean Homo-phobia, LGBT racism, exclusive-mindedness. because his death for revoked and Deletion of Gay, transgender is Obscene words specified for South Korean Youth Protection Act(청소년 보호법〔(청소년유해매체물에 '동성애' 삭제키로 ) Ohmynews 2003.04.29 〕). He wrote under the pen name Yook Woo Dang (육우당,〔(어느10대 동성애자의 자살 ) The Hangyeorye 21 2003.05.08 〕 六友堂, ''home of six friends'') and Seolheon (설헌, 雪軒) and was also known by his nickname Midong (미동, 美童, beautiful boy), Catholic baptismal name was Antonio.
